Guarana is an evergreen climbing shrub whose fruits contain seeds rich in guaranine – a caffeine-like substance. This is precisely what gives this superfood its specific properties. Guarana has an invigorating effect and a stimulating action, which gives a feeling of reduced physical and mental fatigue, increased endurance, and improved concentration and memory. It may also have a lipolysis-stimulating (fat breakdown) effect. It is believed that the amount of caffeine in guarana is much higher than in coffee. It also contains theobromine – a substance characteristic of cocoa beans. Guarana has traditionally been used as a tonic herb. Most often, it is prepared as an invigorating drink.
